I’m pleased to welcome my “virtual” friend, Amanda to my little space today. I met Amanda last year through the Write 31 Days challenge and had the opportunity to guest post last year on her blog about natural childbirth. I’m so glad to be able to have her share here today. If you enjoyed my post in this series about your “expert list,” then I know you’ll enjoy what she has to say. Thanks for sharing here, friend!
When you are in the military there are a number of awards you receive. You think they are no big deal, but shortly after leaving the military to stay at home with my son I would reflect back on these ego enhancing awards. How appreciated the awards made me feel. Even when I didn’t win, being nominated by my boss was like a virtual pat on the back saying you are doing a great job. Staying at home you get rewards, but not really awards.
Best Mom of the Quarter is not given out and if there was an award would you really nominate yourself. As a mom I often think of all the things I did wrong the past three months instead of the things that would fall into the positive list.
In those early months I would not have even considered nominating myself for that award if it existed. Now, I have a lot more good days than bad, but Mom of the Quarter would definitely go to someone else.
I have been trying to focus on the rewards of motherhood. You know, change my thought pattern away from the messy house, the time I got frustrated, the mundane parts of life. They are easier to find than you think. They can make a bad day good and they may not be awards that stand on my desk, but if you look at them as pats on the back and a push to keep going they may just do the same thing.
A cute running boy when I open my arms and he jumps right in
A morning snuggle when it is too early to actually get out of bed
The soft slow breathing of a sleeping child
The giggles from tickles, raspberries and other fun
The “I love you”
The playing with toys, watching Disney movies and chasing each other
The growing up way too fast
The first steps…to freedom, to life changing too quickly
What other awards/rewards from Motherhood would you add?
Hi I’m Amanda! I am a former Air Force member who has transitioned to being a stay at home mom and Air Force wife. My husband and I met in college in our military training program. Since then, we have lived in New Mexico and Ohio and now California. Our son joined our family in the summer of 2013. I blog at Airman2Mom (www.airmantomom.com) with stories incorporating life experience from motherhood and daily life while occasionally throwing in my past letters home from my Afghanistan deployment. My goal is to inspire others on their life journey and hopeful find some encouragement along the way. I love making new friends and would be honored if you followed my blog (www.airmantomom.com), like my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/airman2mom) and follow me on Twitter (www.twitter.com/airman2mom/@Airman2Mom).
